Positions Descriptions

Vice-President Internal

Working as part of the executive team, the Vice-President Internal is responsible for working with internal departments at the university to coordinate shared events, assist in promoting our events to the larger campus, raising awareness of our programs and making connections between international students and campus life.

Responsibilities

  • Working with residence to coordinate assisted programming efforts, promote our programs and help our international students with their integration into the residence community
  • Connecting with the campus community and various departments and clubs to keep appraised of events, programs and opportunities that align with ISMP goals and/or are of interest to the group
  • Assist the WUSC (World University Service of Canada) Chair with implementing WUSC initiatives and programs. Which includes attending the WUSC monthly meetings.
  • Promote ISMP and campus programming to international students and mentors
  • Oversee ISMP programming recruitment and assist executive team and mentors in recruitment endeavours
  • Coordinate participation in Club Days (set up booth, recruit volunteers) to promote the program
  • Create, update and manage the calendar of events
  • Assist in coordinating and delivering mentor training and mentor retreat
  • Assist in running monthly mentor meetings and semester group meetings
  • Provide positive and constructive feedback to mentors and mentees where required
  • Maintain open communication with executive team, mentors and mentees
  • Attend weekly ISMP exec meetings and collate agenda items for the meetings
  • Assist the mentors with making meaningful connections
  • Act as a role model and mentor to the mentors and groups
  • Assist in recruitment efforts for the next academic year

Vice-President External

Working as part of the executive team, the Vice-President External is responsible for working with external community partners to facilitate international student community integration. In this capacity, the incumbent will keep a pulse on community events and programming of interest and encouraging our students to attend. Additionally, VP External will also work with partners in Ontario to assist in planning out of town events.

Responsibilities

  • Working with external partners to coordinate programming efforts and assist international students with community integration
  • Facilitate community integration through programming and event promotion
  • Keep appraised of North Bay community events and events of interest in larger cities such as Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, etc. that students may be interested in attending
  • Promote ISMP and external partner programming to international students and mentors
  • Oversee proposal development and assist mentors with programming planning and preparation
  • Assist in coordinating and delivering mentor training and mentor retreat
  • Assist in running monthly mentor meetings and semester group meetings
  • Provide positive and constructive feedback to mentors and mentees where required
  • Maintain open communication with executive team, mentors and mentees
  • Attend weekly ISMP exec meetings
  • Assist the mentors with making meaningful connections

Mentor Liaison

Working as part of the executive team, the Mentor Liaison is responsible for supporting and assisting the International Student Mentors with their role by fostering an environment of mutual respect, trust and understanding.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as liaison between international student mentors, executive team and International Student Support Services & Programs Office staff
  • Assist in organizing and implementing mentor team building events and initiatives throughout the year
  • Facilitate and foster a sense of community between mentors and develop, plan and coordinate team-building activities as required
  • Develops and manages relationships with assigned mentors and their matched mentees providing an avenue of communication that fosters healthy and professional relationships
  • Act as the voice of the mentors on the executive team, brining forward any concerns, questions or considerations on their behalf
  • Track mentor event attendance and disseminate accordingly
  • Assist the Vice-President Internal and Vice-President External with planning, promoting, recruiting and executing planned ISMP events to mentors and mentees
  • Maintain information housed on Google Docs and disseminate accordingly
  • Collate agenda items for monthly ISMP mentor meetings and disseminate to ISMP executive team in preparation for the meeting
