The Schulich School of Education is one of the pre-eminent education programs in Ontario. Renowned for graduating exceedingly well-prepared and professionally-minded teachers, the Schulich School of Education will prepare you for teaching in traditional and non-traditional environments, and will provide you with transferable communication and collaborative skills that are essential to any career.

Nipissing University’s Bachelor of Education (BEd) program was one of the first teacher education programs to be fully accredited by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) and is one of the most well-recognized education programs in the province.

The program provided by the Schulich School of Education is rigorous and demands a high degree of commitment. To be successful, a student must display a sensitivity to pupils, a sense of responsibility to the teaching profession, and a respect for knowledge.

Consecutive Bachelor of Education Degree ​​Program

The Bachelor of Education (BEd) program is a two-year full-time professional program that meets the requirements of the Ontario College of Teachers for teacher certification (Certificate of Qualification).

  • A program for students that have already completed a 3- or 4-year undergraduate degree from Nipissing or another university.
  • Apply to the Consecutive program by December 1, 2023

Concurrent Bachelor of Education Degree Program
(BA/BSc/BPHE/BFA/BBA & BEd)

Concurrent Education is applicable to all undergraduate programs with the exception of the BScN and the BComm. All divisions (P/J, J/I or I/S) are available with the eligible undergraduate degrees with the exception of Child and Family Studies, which is only eligible with the P/J division.

​The Concurrent Education route includes a set of courses and a non-credit practical experience, that when taken as part of an Honours undergraduate degree, provide preparation for the Bachelor of Education program. Concurrent education allows Nipissing University students the opportunity to assess their suitability for and interest in a BEd before their undergraduate degrees are complete.

6-Year Concurrent Education

  • Students graduate with a Dual Degree – an honours (4-year) undergraduate degree in their discipline of choice (except Nursing and Social Work) and a Bachelor of Education degree.
  • Your first 4 years will consist of courses in your chosen field of study, combined with specialty education courses to prepare you for teaching.
  • Years 5 and 6 will focus on education courses combined with placement and experiential learning.
  • Apply to the Concurrent program by January 15, 2024

Apply for a Schulich Scholarship

80 scholarships at $7,500 each

  • Awarded to selected full-time students entering the first year of an undergraduate degree program with a focus on education – Concurrent Education; Bachelor of Physical and Health Education; or the Consecutive Bachelor of Education.
  • Must have a minimum 80% average and at least one of the following: volunteer work; community involvement; or financial need.
  • 2-Year Consecutive students apply by January 15
  • 6-Year Concurrent students apply by May 1
