Biomass Innovation Centre hosts international presentation

The Biomass Innovation Centre at Nipissing University is pleased to offer a biomass presentation by Dr. Lasse Okkonen at Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville on Sunday, September 18, at 3 p.m.

Registration to this event is free, but an RSVP to Megan Smith at megans@nipissingu.ca is required.

Okkonen’s presentation, titled Developing business models for local forest energy, will examine successes in the development of heat entrepreneurship of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in Finland over the last 15 years. He will also discuss new business opportunities in pellet production using the latest result of the PELLETime project, which focuses on the competitiveness of small-scale pellet production.

Okkonen, from North Karelia University in Joensuu, Finland, will be visiting Nipissing University in September as part of the EU-CAN BioPower Transatlantic Exchange Partnership between Nipissing University, College communautaire du Noveau-Brunswick, North Karelia University of Applied Sciences and Slovak University of Agriculture.

The presentation at Deerhurst is part of the Canadian Institute of Forestry/Institut forestier du Canada (CIF/IFC) AGM and Conference.
