Lakers summer camps
The Nipissing University Lakers varsity teams are hosting a series of summer camps for children to have fun, get active and learn more about their chosen sport. Summer camps are organized for hockey, cross-country running and volleyball.
Lakers Hockey Camp
The Nipissing University Lakers hockey team is pleased to invite youths to hone their hockey skills in the third annual Lakers hockey camp, running for two separate weeks, August 22 – 26, and August 29 – September 2, 2011.
Lakers Head Coach Mike McParland will lead the hockey camp. He brings 20 years of coaching experience in the Swiss National League, as well as Head Coach for Team Canada Tournament Champion at the Skoda Cup Tournament in Slovakia in 2003.
McParland will be joined by the Lakers Assistant Coaches and Lakers players.
The camp will consist of a mix of on-ice training and off-ice core-body training.
The camp is divided into three age groups: 6 – 8 year-olds (costing $150); 9 – 11 year-olds ($165); and ages 11+ ($165).

Lakers Cross-Country Running Day Camp
The Nipissing University varsity cross-country team is offering a Summer Cross-Country Running Day Camp for youth ages 8 to 14.
The camp will be hosted by Dr. Graydon Raymer, head coach of the Nipissing University cross-country team and Certified Exercise Physiologist, with the help of current varsity cross-country athletes and Nipissing Physical and Health Education students.
The camp will be held at Nipissing University from August 15 –19, daily from 9 a.m. – noon.
The camp will be focussed toward youth interested in cross-country running. All levels of running experience are welcome. Youth attending the camp will be taught the fundamentals of cross-country running, racing and training in a fun and non-competitive atmosphere.
The early bird cost to register for the 2011 Cross-Country Day Camp is $50 per individual before August 1. After August 1, the cost is $60.00 per individual. Snacks and a pizza lunch on the last day are included in the cost.

Lakers Volleyball Camp
Registration is now open for the Lakers Summer Volleyball Camps.
Peak Performance Camp
July 25 – 29, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
For girls 14-18 who possess advanced skills
Cost: $200
The Peak Performance Camp is designed for the high school players and club athletes with a commitment to the sport and the motivation to take their game to the next level. As an experienced athlete you must be proficient in all skills and should have an in-depth knowledge of the game.
Athlete registrations will be capped at 28 to ensure individualized instruction and allow for maximum contacts. This week of intense training will focus on exposing athletes to the next level of volleyball through position specific drills, advanced technical and tactical skills and conditioning.
Players must be on a high school team or club team. Sorry, no exceptions.

All Skills Camp

For athletes (co-ed) aged 9 – 16
Cost: $140
The All Skills Camp is open to all players of all abilities levels. Develop a more in-depth understanding of the game while mastering the fundamental skills. Coaches will develop your tactical and technical abilities through various drills and team play. Every aspect of the game is covered, giving you a solid skill foundation to build upon after camp. Athletes will be divided into groups according to age and abilities allowing the best possible learning experience.
