Lakers hockey earn weekend split

The Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team skated into the regular season this past weekend and earned a split, with a loss against UQTR and a win versus RMC.On Friday night in la Belle Province’s Trois-Rivieres, the Lakers fell to the powerful UQTR Patriotes 7-4.  Despite the lopsided score, it was a closely contested game.
“We definitely shot ourselves in the foot, because by no means did they merit a 7-4 win (with an empty-netter), because the game was closer than that,” said Lakers head coach Mike McParland. “The last two periods, we had a shot advantage of 28-17, which speaks volumes.”
On Saturday night in Kingsrton, the Lakers gave up the first goal, before lighting it up for six unanswered goals against the RMC Paladins.  The Lakers were definitely the  dominate team, outshooting RMC 50–19.
Next up for Lakers hockey is the home opener, a rematch against UQTR this Friday night at Memorial Gardens. With the Lakers looking to avenge the loss, it should be a good one!
