Nipissing celebrates 20 years
Nipissing University celebrated its 20th anniversary yesterday in style, with special guests, champagne, live music and a dance performance. The university received its charter as an independent degree granting university in 1992.
To mark the occasion, the university welcomed more than 600 people to the newly renovated Robert J. Surtees Student Athletics Centre. Guests were treated to a student-led rendition of Happy Birthday, speeches and a champagne toast led by former university president Dr. Dave Marshall, who was at the university’s helm in 1992.
“Nipissing has grown into a dynamic university with campuses in North Bay, Muskoka and Brantford, offering post-secondary education to more than 6,000 students. We consistently achieve top marks in surveys that measure student engagement and student satisfaction. We are thrilled to celebrate 20 great years with our community; they have always played a large role in our success,” said university president and vice-chancellor (interim) Vicky Paine-Mantha.
Today, Nipissing is home to a growing research culture and offers 28 undergraduate degree programs, five Masters level programs and one doctorate level program. It also houses the only named Education program in Canada, the renowned Schulich School of Education.
Anniversary celebrations continue for Nipissing, with the Muskoka campus hosting a party on Monday, December 3, at 1 p.m. and another event being planned for Brantford in the new year.
