Lakers men’s hockey progressing
While players always want to win, at this point in the season, results are secondary; it’s about building for the regular season. The Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team was back on the road this past weekend, and despite a couple of losses, they are rounding into form heading into this weekend’s season opener.
The Ryerson Rams topped the Lakers on Friday and Saturday, winning 4-3 at Maple Leaf Gardens Friday night and 5-3 in Huntsville on Saturday evening.
At the end of the day, according to Lakers head coach Mike McParland, turnovers were the name of the game, and in the end, cost the Lakers.
Friday night, Kirk Rafuse had a strong game in net and the Lakers got goals from Dorian Peca, and a pair from Matt Paton, but fell a goal short.
Saturday, it was Peca and Paton again, each scoring once, while Grant Toulmin added the other marker for the Lakers.
The team will continue to practice and prepare for this weekend, when they open the OUA regular season on the road, taking on York Saturday night and Brock Sunday afternoon.
The Lakers home opener is set for October 18 versus Carleton.
