An opportunity to help those who have helped

Nipissing University Masters of Education students, Andrea and Julie Kocsis were fourth-year students when they travelled to Kenya as part of a Students For Development (SFD) Internship. The experience changed their lives and inspired them to create an NGO, PowerEd International Foundation, working tosustainably sponsor women to obtain an education through coverage of school fees, uniforms, school supplies and any other barriers that are prohibiting them from achieving an education.To-date, PowerEd has supported six girls to go to school, and has developed a lunch program at the Okana School in Kisumu county. PowerEd hopes to sponsor more girls to attend school and other projects. Read more about the establishment and goals of PowerEd at http://powered101.webs.com/
During their time in Kenya two people touched the hearts of the Kocsis sisters: Grace and Felix who worked at the Bed and Breakfast where Julie and Andrea lived. In addition to attending to their daily work duties, Grace and Felix helped our students to integrate into daily life in Kenya in many ways. When another group of Nipissing students travelled to Kenya as part of an SFD Internship, Grace and Felix once again offered their support.
Grace and Felix are seeking to improve their lives and their childrens' lives. Grace a woman in her 30's has recently completed elementary schooling and will write her exam to enter secondary school in 2014. The SFD interns have been helping to support Grace's subsistence and schooling fees. As she embarks on secondary school studies, help is needed to support this success story in progress!
Felix's management skills have positioned him for acceptance to puruse a Business Degree in Human Resource Management at Moi University in the upcoming year. You can help him realize this opportunity by offering support.
During this holiday season, a time of giving, please consider helping those who've helped Nipissing University students during their SFD internships.
If you are interested in giving a personal donation there are two ways:You can make a major contribution via the PowerEd website.Alternatively, you can provide any amount of financial support and Karen Strang will see that it is directed to PowerEd to support either:a young girl to attend school, orto support Grace and Felix with their educational pursuits.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Karen Strang atkarens@nipissingu.ca or at ext. 4105 for more information.
