The nominations are in, now it’s up to the Nipissing community to pick a winner and vote for next year’s book in the Common Book Common Ground program.
In this corner…The Book Thief, by Marcus Zuskak!
And in this corner…back by popular demand,World War Z, by Max Brooks!
Let’s get ready to ruuuuumble!!!!!!!!!!!
Remember, the organizers are looking for book that meets the program’s two main goals: to introduce students in an academic way to literacy and critical thinking, and to provide students with some common intellectual ground to facilitate discussion and friendship.
Now head over to www.nipissingu.ca/commonbook to find out more about each book and why they are such strong contenders. Then, vote for the book you think all first-year students should read next year.
Keep in mind the ‘common’ aspect of common book when you cast your vote, and consider what makes an outstanding book selection. Some criteria for your consideration:
• Multidisciplinary topics
• Suitable for critical thinking
• Ease of reading
• Topics with relevance to young adults
• Ability to generate activities
• Ability to capture student interest
