Construction project temporarily closing south entrance
The ongoing construction project on College Drive is resulting in the closure of Nipissing’s south entrance beginning on July 29. College Drive will remain partially open, though reduced to a singe lane. The north entrance to campus is open.
Access to the south entrance will be closed for 2-3 weeks, reopening in mid August.
Work will be proceeding along the west side of College Dr. over the next several weeks.
The work being is being undertaken by the City of North Bay and includes the replacement of a water main and some new water infrastructure to better service campus and the homes and businesses on the escarpment.
When completed, the project will also feature a 4-metre wide paved and lit pathway connecting the main campus to the lower residence area and including a controlled crosswalk across College Drive. Similar to the Kate Pace Way, the new path greatly improves opportunity for cycling, walking and running on College Drive. While the construction delays are definitely a pain, there is a silver lining for students, faculty, staff and community members to enjoy.
Work on the north entrance to campus is expected to occur close to the start of September. When that takes place, an alternate entrance will be constructed near the current north entrance to allow continued access via two locations.
