The Peer Support Program
The Peer Support Program is a peer lead wellness service available to all Canadore and Nipissing students who would like support for their mental wellness and who may be looking for connection, community, and a positive and safe space to spend time with others.
MENtal Strength
MENtal Strength is a mental health awareness campaign to challenge myths about male mental wellbeing, to increase awareness and discussion of men's mental health, reduce stigma, and support men to have real conversations about their emotional wellbeing and seek support with mental health services.
Bell Let’s Talk Community Fund grant
In 2021 Nipissing University was the successful recipient of the Bell Let's Talk Community Fund grant. These grants support capacity-building projects aimed at creating or expanding programs that provide front-line support and/or reduce the stigma for those impacted by mental health issues.
The monetary grant of $25,000 enabled Nipissing University to implement the National Standard of Canada for Mental-Health and Well-Being for Post-Secondary Students. The Standard is the first of its kind and is a flexible, voluntary set of guidelines that campuses can use to support the health and well-being of students. The guidelines will support the university to promote student well-being by raising awareness of mental health and decreasing stigma, provide a healthier and safer institution, promote resiliency, and improve student success.
The Campus Committee was formed in November 2021 with a diverse group of stakeholders including faculty, staff and students. This enthusiastic, collaborative group is committed to addressing the strengths and needs of the whole institution, to have a culture that supports the mental health and wellbeing of all students, faculty, and staff and reduce barriers for all to feel comfortable to access services.
