Former Erie Otters’ Paton commits to Lakers Hockey

The Nipissing Lakers Hockey Team is pleased to announce the commitment of Matthew Paton from the Ontario Hockey League’s Erie Otters to attend Nipissing University in the fall of 2011.
Paton, a six-foot, 200 pound right winger played four seasons for the Otters. His best statistical season came in 2010-11 scoring seven goals and adding 12 assists while accumulating 70 penalty minutes.

The Otters finished the 2010-11 campaign with a 40-26-1-1 record. They finished third in the Midwest Division and were narrowly defeated in the first round of the playoffs by the Windsor Spitfires 5-4 in game seven.

“I am excited for the opportunity to play for Nipissing,” said Paton. “I have seen how beautiful the city and the university are, and I can't wait to come up and get started,” added the Woodstock, Ontario native.

Head coach Mike McParland added that he is very happy to have Paton on board.

“Besides his aggressive play, Paton brings a real element of seriousness, necessary to succeed as a student/athlete,” said McParland.

Lakers Hockey season tickets are now on sale and can be purchased at the Memorial Gardens box office.
