Lahey leaving Lakers

Matt Lahey, captain of the Nipissing University Lakers hockey team, has decided to leave the hockey team for personal reasons.

Lahey informed McParland of his decision on October 7.

“We are very proud of Matt and respect his decision.  The team and the university wish him continued success in all his future endeavours,” said head coach Mike McParland. “Matt gave a lot to the Lakers.  His leadership throughout our inaugural season was a big factor in our success on and off the ice.  While the Lakers will miss his presence, we are fortunate to have a number of leaders on this team and I have the strongest confidence that we will continue to compete at the very highest level.”

“This was a difficult decision for me.  I really enjoyed my time playing for the Lakers and have a lot of respect and admiration for the team,” said Lahey.  “They are a great bunch of guys and I wish them continued success.”

McParland plans to let the team choose their next Lakers captain in the near future.

McParland will be available to speak to media about Lahey’s decision following tonight’s game versus UQTR.
