Long-time administrator Peggy Cook retires
?After celebrating thirty years of service working as a Manager in the Office of the Vice-President Administration, faculty, staff and friends gathered together to celebrate Peggy Cook’s career as she enters the world of retirement.
"I can honestly say that I had the best job at the university," says Cook. Cook considers herself to be a numbers person so she enjoyed the challenges of balancing spreadsheets and budgets over the years. “One of my favourite aspects of the position was to work independently and as part of a team in the area of capital projects and renovations, of which there have been many. I was involved in all aspects including the tendering process, design, meeting with architects and contractors right down to picking paint colours, signage and furniture,” stated Cook.
"She will be greatly missed by everyone she has come in contact with over her many years of service at Nipissing University," stated Vicky Paine-Mantha , Vice-President Finance, Administration and Strategic Capital Investment. “Her dedication, loyalty and contributions to this institution made her a much-valued employee and friend. If I could describe her in one word, it would be ‘phenomenal’ with each letter representing one of the following attributes: passionate, helpful, energetic, nice, open-minded, meritorious, exceptional, natural, admirable and lovable.”
At the celebration, guests were treated to a musical tribute by Mike Walker and former colleague, Dr. Ted Chase, with original song lyrics that encapsulated her personality.
Murray Green, who has since retired from his position of Vice-President Finance and Administration, worked with Cook for sixteen years and praised her professionalism and work ethic, describing her as a ”team-player who grew with the job as the university continued to grow.”
On a personal level, her long-time friend and colleague, Ken McLellan, Manager of Finance, spoke of her commitment to the university while obtaining an undergraduate degree in liberal arts. He also recognized her organizational skills when planning and fully participating in social events.
While she takes away a wealth of institutional knowledge, we wish her well on her next journey.
