Nipissing University Announces Schulich School of Education
Thanks to a $15 million benefaction from well-known philantropist Seymour Schulich, the highly respected Faculty of Education at Nipissing University has been renamed the Schulich School of Education.
Nipissing announced the name change, and what it means for the future, in a gala celebration on March 18.
The Schulich School of Education will build on Nipissing's strong reputation for teacher education, while allowing for strategic investment and growth in at least four new areas: development of teacher preparation rich in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM); approaches to enhance family and Aboriginal literacies; establishment of a Schulich Chair in Aboriginal Education; and improving achievement through continuous inovation in teaching and enhanced educational technology.
The Schulich School of Education at Nipissing University becomes the latest jewel in the global Schulich family of educational institutions, joining the Schulich School of Business at York University, the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario, the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary, the Schulich School of Music at McGill University, the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University and the Schulich Faculty of Chemistry at the Israel Institute of Technology (Technion).
