Lakers hockey edge RMC

The Nipissing Lakers defeated the RMC Paladins 5-4 to end a two-game losing streak Friday night at Memorial Gardens.Although pleased with the win, head coach Mike McParland acknowledged that the Paladins didn't make it easy for the Lakers.
"We hustled, we hit, we played pretty well most of the night,” said McParland, blaming the narrow victory on a few lapses and unnecessary penalties late in the game. “We let off the gas in the third period a little bit, and we knew with a team like RMC, they're not the most talented team, but they never quit. And that's what you saw tonight.”
In front of a raucous hometown crowd of more than 2,000, the Lakers were quick to score in the first period and managed to keep the Paladins at bay until they tied it up at 14:41. The Nipissing team regained the lead early on in the second period, scoring at 3:28 followed by back-to-back goals at 6:21 and 8:15.
The Paladins persevered into the third period, picking up two goals early on. The Lakers scored another goal at 11:49, but RMC again narrowed the Lakers lead, scoring at 14:12.
In an attempt to tie it up, Paladin goaltender Melvin Day was pulled in the game’s final seconds, but to no avail.
Dorian Peca, Kevin Flather, Brogan Bailey, Conor O'Donnell and Brett Cook scored for the Lakers.
It was the second win of the season for the Lakers against the Paladins, who fell to Nipissing 6-1 earlier this month. It also puts the Lakers back in the win column after a two-loss weekend last week.
They’ll face the U of T Varsity Blues, next week at the Gardens.
“It's going to be a good game for the fans again. They just hack and whack and run us like they did in Toronto,” said McPharland. “I know our guys aren't very happy and they're looking for a little bit of revenge here next Friday night. It's going to be a good game, they never make it easy for us either.”?
