The road has not been kind to the Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team so far in this young OUA hockey season. The Lakers dropped their third straight road game and fourth straight overall, as they were shutout Friday night by the Windsor Lancers, 7-0, before coming up just a goal short Saturday, falling to the Western Mustangs 3-2.
After opening the season with a win, the Lakers have hit some bumps in the road, despite being within a goal in three out of their four losses.
Aside from the 7-0 loss, the Lakers have lost games by scores of 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2, proving they can compete.
Scoring for the Lakers in Sunday’s loss were Molly Sipprell and Alexane Papineau, who built up a 2-0 lead after the second period before surrendering three third period goals.
Jackie Rochefort was once again strong in net, making 42 saves in a losing cause.
The Lakers return home for a pair of games this weekend, hosting Ryerson Saturday afternoon and the University of Toronto Sunday evening.
Saturday’s game is set for 2 p.m., while Sunday’s match-up begins at 7 p.m. Both games will be played at Memorial Gardens.
