Tough weekend on the soccer pitch

The Nipissing University Lakers soccer squads were in action this past weekend, with the women’s team facing Ottawa and Carleton, and the men dueling Carleton.Women’s Soccer?The Nipissing Lakers women’s soccer team had a tough weekend, dropping a pair of games on the road.Saturday, the Lakers were shutout by the Carleton Ravens 4-0.
Samantha Nealon scored two goals for the Ravens, who led 3-0 at halftime and added a fourth goal in the second half, late in the game.
Renee Clarke had five shots for the Lakers, who had 13 total, but were unable to find the back of the net.
Carlee Bennard was named game MVP for the Lakers.
Sunday, the Lakers did manage to score, but the Ottawa Gee Gees were too much as they controlled the game, winning 9-1.
The Lakers lone goal came early in the second half as Valaine Confesor scored on a penalty kick to get the Lakers on the board.
Unfortunately, the women trailed 5-0 at that point and would surrender another four goals following their lone marker.
The team is back at home this weekend, hosting Toronto on Saturday and welcoming Ryerson to town Sunday. Both games begin at noon at Nipissing Field.Men’s Soccer
?Despite a strong effort and an early lead, the Nipissing Lakers men’s soccer team came up short on the road at Carleton, against the Ravens.
The Lakers scored in the 35th minute on a goal from Graham Dufort, but the Ravens managed to tie the game just five minutes later.
The teams went into halftime tied 1-1 and remained that way until the 83rd minute when the Ravens scored the go-ahead goal to give them the win.
The loss drops the Lakers to 2-5-1 and puts them in fifth place in the OUA East Division.
The Lakers will look to rebound this weekend when they host a pair of games.
Saturday, the Lakers welcome Toronto to town, while Sunday the Lakers host Ryerson. Both games begin at 2:15 p.m. at Nipissing Field.
