Business students earn awards

The School of Business celebrated the hard work and dedication of its students recently with the Business Student Awards on March 27.

Students from each year of study were presented an award to recognize individual efforts and leadership skill.  Students were nominated and selected by faculty.

For returning students, in addition to good academic standing, it was incumbent that they demonstrate leadership by making a substantial contribution to an on-campus activity, as well as a contribution to a community organization.

In addition, four fourth-year students were selected to make up the fourth-year all-star team.

Award winners include first-year recipient, Gillian McCaskill; second-year recipient, Jessica Demers; third-year recipient, Carly Turcotte.  The fourth-year all-star team includes Bailey Brown, Nathan Gravelle, Michael Codina-Lucia, and Aaron Miller.

An award recognizing the individual efforts of a student in the School of Business was presented to a fourth-year student Kurt Tempelmans-Plat, as nominated by the graduating class.  Some factors considered in the nomination were performance in class, participating in discussion, leadership in group-work, putting in the extra effort to go beyond expectations and overall contributions to the university and North Bay community.

“Every year we take the time to recognize those students that have gone above and beyond our expectations - those that have demonstrated great leadership potential or have already taken leadership roles in the classroom, on campus or in the community,” said Dr. Natalya Brown, assistant professor in the School of Business. “The awards are also meant to encourage our entire student body to be more engaged in the classroom and in the university community. This year we are very proud of the fact that we had a long list of nominations. Our students are more than rising to the challenges we set before them.”
