Nipissing winding down programs in Muskoka

Nipissing University is consolidating the academic programming offered in Muskoka to improve the university’s overall efficiency in order to continue to deliver a high-quality university experience.

The university’s Board of Governors passed a resolution at their regular meeting on June 4 outlining that September 2015 will represent the final intake of students for Nipissing’s Muskoka campus. Students currently enrolled in courses at the Muskoka campus will have the opportunity to complete their studies and will continue to be supported.

“On behalf of Nipissing, I offer thanks to everyone in the Muskoka region who were so welcoming to the university. This is a necessary financial decision, which doesn’t make it any less difficult,” said Dr. Mike DeGagné, Nipissing’s president and vice-chancellor. “After 19 years in the region, and many different initiatives, not enough students were enrolling in courses to continue. This move will allow Nipissing to concentrate efforts and finances on supporting our students and faculty on the main campus in North Bay.”

Nipissing’s Muskoka campus was established in 1996. The campus relocated to its current location, a 26,000 square foot, $6.6 million facility in Jubilee Park, in 2008. A residence complex was completed in 2011. The campus currently offers two degree programs: Child and Family Studies and Culture and the Arts. In the 2014-15 academic year, 94 full-time, and 20 part-time students were enrolled in Muskoka.
