The university will welcome more than 200 students as well as their families and friends, to the North Bay campus for NSO to learn more about their university and how they can get the most out of their time as a student.“NSO is such an important first step for some students who are beginning their university journey. Some students are nervous about the transition from high school, and NSO can help people get organized and feel comfortable,” said Adam McLandress, a current Psychology student who is assisting with NSO.  “I’m excited to be able to help first-year students prepare for this fantastic adventure so they can hit the ground running when they arrive for classes in September.”
NSO runs daily July 11 – 15, from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
It provides first-year students the opportunity to meet with their future professors and receive an overview of academic expectations and requirements. They will be able to discuss their particular program with academic advisors to ensure that their course selections are accurate and complete. Each NSO participant will also be provided time to talk to current students about the transition to university to help prepare for classes in September. As well, students and their families receive a tour of the campus, residences and learn about the support services, resources, educational and extra-curricular opportunities available to them as Nipissing students.
Each NSO day also includes student and parent sessions in which current students and university administrators answer questions about Nipissing University, North Bay and first year experiences and expectations.NSO days are organized around the academic programs available at Nipissing. This allows incoming students to meet their fellow classmates early and make a connection with some of the people they will be sitting beside during their lectures this September.
