Nipissing and Canadore team up for ringette
In a unique joint venture highlighting the cooperation between the two schools, Nipissing University and Canadore College held competitive tryouts for their combined ringette club earlier this month.
“Final cuts were difficult but we had to choose the most skilled players from both schools, especially with the national championships being held in Ontario this year”, said head coach Jeff Francom. “We will attend the University Challenge Cup with one of the best chances for a medal we’ve had in our seven years of hosting a post-secondary team in North Bay.”
Both institutions are providing financial as well as training support to the team, to help the best ringette players from both schools compete at the highest level possible.
From Nipissing, Tori Blendeman, Lauren Blinkhorn, Britney Bujold, Emily Cole, Kaylee Flynn, Alison Groff, Deanna Noel, Melissa Parks, Michela Roman, Emma Small, Julianne Sevigny and Jaime Wilson were selected. From Canadore, Alex Cyr and Stephanie Lee made the team.
Nipissing University has hosted a ringette club every season for the past six years.
This is the first year that Canadore has joined as a partner in the team, providing an even stronger base for future ringette players.
