About
Terra currently works within Student Development and Services at Nipissing University. She is a Registered Social Worker and a member of the Canadian Association of Play Therapy. Terra also has a private practice within the community. With over 20 years of experience within children’s mental health, developmental services, child welfare and counselling services she has been very active in violence against women issues and prevention of child abuse. Terra sits on multiple service committees including Nipissing Service Collaborative, the Domestic Violence Community Coordinating Committee where she has held various executive positions and is currently a Director with the Nipissing Transition House. She works from a strength-based perspective wanting people to achieve their optimal level of functioning.

Research

Teaching and Research Interests:

Terra is currently certified to teach Mental Health First Aid for Adults who work with Youth (MHFA) and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST). She has taught part of the new worker curriculum within Child Welfare and was part of helping deliver changes to the Child and Youth Family Services Act.

Terra’s research has included helping devise a diagnostic screening tool for adult psychiatric patients who were abused as children. She also completed an ecological study on the needs of grandparents who were caring for their grandchildren where one of the biological parents had an addiction issue. Her research interests continue to be diverse. Often wanting to help provide a stronger connection between the needs of service users and current policy development.
