Nipissing celebrates 10 years in Brantford
On November 29, Nipissing Brantford celebrated a Decade of Education in Brantford with an inspiring talk by Spencer West. The Sanderson Centre was packed to capacity and the sold out crowd was moved by West’s life story and message to overcome obstacles to create change in the world: to redefine what is possible.
West spoke about his work at the same schools Nipissing University students visit in Kenya, his travels up Mount Kilimanjaro and his hardships growing up with bullying. Through wit and humour, West captured the crowd with his passion for human rights, including campaigns for clean water, anti-homophobia and anti-bullying awareness.
“In 2008, Spencer West went on a volunteer trip to the Maasai Mara area of Kenya, the same location where Nipissing students work for their international practicum placement each year. His experiences in Kenya made Spencer realize that his calling is to motivate and inspire people around the world,” said Rick Denton, Co-Chair of Nipissing’s Anniversary Celebrations Committee. “His words of inspiration have encouraged millions of people, including Nipissing University students, to make a difference locally and globally.”
