Two big points but overtime unkind to Lakers hockey
The Nipissing Lakers hockey team earned two important points over the weekend, forcing both games into extra time, though dropping both decisions.On Friday night versus the Carleton Ravens, Lakers goaltender Daniel Spence was spectacular, stopping 51 shots in the 3-2 overtime loss in front of 1,442 fans.
The Lakers found themselves down by two goals after the first period, but battled back in the second off goals by Brett Cook and Connor O’Donnell to tie the game.
On Saturday night, the Lakers faced the Ottawa Gees in a shoot-out marathon that required 22 attempts before a winner could be determined.
The Lakers had once again battled back to tie the game after falling behind 3-1. After the five-minute sudden death overtime solved nothing, the teams entered the shootout, which took 11 rounds.
Lakers scoring came off the sticks of Kevin Flather, Dane Horvat and Matt Paton.
The Lakers enter the holiday break in sixth place in the OUA East. They return to action on January 4 against the eighth-place Ryerson Rams at Memorial Gardens.
