NU grad earns national award for forest sustainability
Congratulations to Nipissing University graduate Jeff Renton (BSc in Biology ’07) on earning the Prince of Wales Award for Sustainable Forestry.
The award was presented by Mr. Geraint Richards, Head Forester of the Duchy of Cornwall, U.K, on behalf of the Canadian Institute of Forestry - Institut forestier du Canada (CIF-IFC). The Prince of Wales Award for Sustainable Forestry recognizes the achievements of an outstanding young forest professional in Canada, and encourages involvement in and dedication to the principles of sustainable forest management, science-based land stewardship, and public outreach focusing on the wise use and conservation of forests and the ecosystems that they encompass.
“Mr. Renton is a very worthy recipient,” says Dr. Tat Smith, President of the CIF-IFC. “He is a member of our Institute and on the Council of our Rocky Mountain Section. He is currently working with the Agroforestry and Woodlot Extension Society in Alberta. Jeff is dedicated to the practice of sustainable forestry and is generous in volunteering for both the profession and in his community.”
