Undeclared
Selecting courses with an Academic Advisor when you are an undeclared student is of particular importance. An Academic Advisor is knowledgeable about Nipissing’s undergraduate programs and will be able to suggest a number of academic programs based on your interests, assist you with exploring options for combining your interests, and will help you with keeping your options open to ensure the classes you pick as an undeclared student will have a place in the degree program you select later on.
Please see additional course information below.
Breadth Requirements
Most undergraduate programs make reference to Humanities, Social Science, Science, and Professional Discipline requirements (breadth requirements). The purpose of breadth requirements is to ensure that students are exposed to different disciplines within their degree.
Please note that courses in the subjects below may not be offered each year.
These groups are defined as follows:
Humanities |
Classical Studies, English Studies, Film, Fine Arts, French, History, Philosophy, Religions and Cultures, Spanish |
---|---|
Social Sciences |
Anthropology, Child and Family Studies, Criminal Justice, Economics, Gender Equality and Social Justice, Geography, Indigenous Studies, Political Science, Psychology, Social Welfare and Social Development, Sociology |

Professional Studies |

Electives
Electives are courses taken outside of the program requirements, chosen by the student. Students often use elective credits to achieve additional goals such as majors, minors, certificates and/or teaching subjects. When trying to select electives, students can look at specific courses and course descriptions using WebAdvisor or the Academic Calendar.
French Courses
It is strongly recommended that students with Grade 12 core French enroll in FREN-1106 Introductory French, while those students who have graduated from a French immersion program or fully French secondary school enroll in FREN-2006 Intermediate French. Students interested in a Minor in French can find the requirements at this link.
If you wish to enroll in FREN-2006 Intermediate French and have not completed Introductory French, please email Dr. Richard Wenghofer, Chair of Classical Studies, at richardw@nipissingu.ca to request exemption from this prerequisite requirement. If approved, Dr. Wenghofer will inform the Office of the Registrar and you will be notified when you can proceed with registered for FREN-2006 Intermediate French.
