Dixon to bolster offence for Lady Lakers soccer team
Lady Lakers Soccer Head Coach David Bitonti is happy to announce the commitment of Erica Dixon who will be studying Criminal Justice at Nipissing University in the fall.
Dixon, a six-foot-five striker from Orleans, Ontario, played for St.Anthony's Soccer Club and was a member of the 2011 Ontario Cup U21 provincial team which captured a silver medal. Dixon and her teammates from St. Matthew’s High School won the Tier 2 High School Championship in 2011 and was the leading scorer for her 2010-2011 indoor championship team.
With the departure of the team’s leading scorer, Leesa Church, Bitonti needed a player with a scoring touch and he believes that Dixon can be a game changer for the Lady Lakers.
“Erica can score,” stated Bitonti. “I'm excited about her, as she has the ability to attack the goal as well as the ability to distribute the ball. She has good size and is very good with the ball. She'll be a player that can change a game for us, and due to the fact that Leesa graduated, we needed to add another goal-scoring player of Erica's quality.”
“The level of coaching I will have is exciting and I know that I have so much more to learn by being part of this team,” said Dixon. “I have played both striker and defence and want to bring these skills to the Lakers. During my campus visit, I met some of the players and listening to their experience with the team and the coaching staff, it made the decision easy. This is the right fit for me. I am looking forward to an exciting year ahead with the women’s soccer team.”
The Lady Lakers begin training camp August 16 at 7 p.m. with player registration.
The Lady Lakers will take to the field September 2, as they travel to Sudbury to play their Northern rivals the Laurentian Voyageurs to kick off the OUA soccer season.
