Students accepted into Nipissing University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in North Bay are eligible to apply for the new Ontario Learn and Stay Grant.

Students accepted into Nipissing University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in North Bay are eligible to apply for the new Ontario Learn and Stay Grant. Funded by the Government of Ontario, this grant will cover the cost of tuition, textbooks, and other direct educational costs for students who commit to work in North Bay for a certain term after graduation.  

The program is designed to encourage students to learn and stay locally, helping to bring in-demand health care workers to communities that need them most across the province.

Key Facts: Ontario Learn and Stay Grant

  1. The Ontario Learn and Stay Grant provides full, upfront funding for tuition, books and other direct educational costs.
  2. Students who receive the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant can also apply for the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) to help pay for other expenses, such as living costs..
  3. To be eligible for this grant, students must:
    1. successfully apply to and enrol in the first year of an eligible program in a priority community
    2. be an Ontario resident who is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person
    3. commit to work in the region where they studied when they graduate
  4. After graduation, students will be required to work in the region where they studied for a minimum of six months for every year of study funded by this grant.
  5. For example, if a student’s program of study is four years long, and they received the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant each year, they must work in the region for 24 months (two years) following graduation.
  6. If students do not fulfill their service commitment, their funding will be converted to a repayable loan.
  7. The deadline to apply is 60 days before the end of their study period, meaning that students can still apply for the grant after they’ve started their program.

Grant applications for the 2026-27 academic year are now open for students enrolling in their first or second year of Nipissing University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in North Bay.
