Introducing Line Gallery
Nipissing congratulates Amanda Burk, assistant professor in the department of Fine and Performing Arts, who recently opened a new art gallery in North Bay, called Line Gallery.
As an extension of Burk’s research and her own drawing practice, Line Gallery will focus exclusively on exhibiting contemporary Canadian drawing. The gallery will produce five to six exhibitions each year and will showcase the work of both emerging and established drawing artists from across Canada. Additionally, the gallery will use the exhibitions as a way of documenting contemporary drawing, conduct interviews with the artists, support artist talks and actively work towards developing a national online resource for drawing, with the hope that Line Gallery will become a significant site for research and discourse about drawing.
Line Gallery’s first exhibition features the large-scale charcoal drawings of Olexander Wlasenko. His exhibition, Just a Moment, inspired by art house cinema from Italy, France and Sweden will run until November 12. There will be a closing reception on November 11 from 7 – 9 p.m., with the artist in attendance.
Olasenko will also be giving a public presentation on his work at Nipissing University on November 11 at 11:30 a.m. in M106. All are welcome to attend.
Line Gallery is located at 897 Main Street West, North Bay, Ontario. Gallery hours are Wednesday to Friday - noon to 6 p.m., and Saturdays - noon - 4 p.m.
