Lakers add size and skill with Toulmin
The Nipissing University Lakers men’s hockey team has added some serious size to its roster for the upcoming season with the addition of six-foot five-inch, 210-pound forward Grant Toulmin.
Toulmin, from Langley, British Columbia, played last season for the National College Champion Mount Royal Cougars, where he finished third in team scoring with six goals and 13 assists in 28 games. He has played parts of three seasons with the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League.
“I’ve heard a lot of positive things about Nipissing University, the Lakers hockey program and the North Bay community, so I’m really looking forward to starting my university career there and pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice,” said Toulmin.
“My sources spoke very highly of Grant and I expect that he’ll be a similar player to Grant McGee, a big player with a long reach and good hands who can play physical and isn’t afraid to go to the net,” said Lakers head coach Mike McParland. “We’ve added some very good players to our roster this season and I expect that competition for roster spots will be very interesting.”
Tryouts for the 2011-12 season begin September 1 at Memorial Gardens.
Registration for the Lakers' Youth Hockey Camps, scheduled for the final two weeks of August, is also taking.
The Lakers regular season home opener is on October 1 versus the Ottawa Gee Gees, during Nipissing’s Homecoming 2011 weekend. Tickets for the hockey game will be in high demand as the university is hosting the Homecoming Tailgate Party in Thomson Park prior to the game.
