Nominations open for influential alumni awards

Homecoming Weekend 2011 is a time to celebrate all things Nipissing and the Nipissing University Alumni Association is marking the occasion this year by honouring all alumni through the introduction of the Dr. James Jamieson Influential Alumni Awards.

Influential Alumni Awards will be presented to outstanding graduates in alternating five-year increments. This year, the university will honour those graduates who earned their degree in 2011, 2006, 2001, 1996, 1991, 1986, 1981, 1971, 1966, and so on, reaching back to the start of the North Bay Normal School. Next year, the university will honour graduates from 2012, 2007, 1998, 1992, etc.

Recipients will be presented with this award at the Alumni Awards Reception in the new Harris Learning Library on September 30, 2011, helping to launch the Homecoming festivities.

The Alumni Association would like to invite recommendations and nominations for candidates from these years. Please send your nominations to the Alumni Relations Office in External Relations and Advancement at alumni@nipissingu.ca. Nominations are due by August 1, 2011.

The Dr. James Jamieson Influential Alumni Awards will be presented to alumni each year during Homecoming Weekend.  It is designed to recognize the outstanding achievements, present stature and future potential of Nipissing University alumni.

The award is named after Dr. James Jamieson, who was made a honorary member of the Nipissing University Alumni Association in the early 1980s. He was one of the founding members of the Alumni Association and served as its first President from 1973 - 1975. He served as a member of the Board of Governors from 1975 –1986. In 1981, he, along with Dr. George Zytaruk, was instrumental in the setting up of the Office of Alumni Affairs.
