Arts and Culture film series

Nipissing Muskoka’s Culture and the Arts program has introduced a new film series.Since the program explores a wide range of cultural and artistic expression, it is fitting that the first series of films are organized around the theme of literature. Literature comes in many forms and has been inspirational to filmmakers since the earliest narrative films were made more than a century ago.The film series will look at a recent film adaptation of a classic Victorian novel, a biographical film based on the life and loves of the English Romantic poet, John Keats, a spirited adaptation of a classic children’s picture book, and an adaptation of an Irish short story, set in a literary festival, with ghostly spookiness and gripping suspense!Arts and Culture Film Series, Winter 2012 lineup?Wednesday February 29, 7 p.m.?Bright Star (2009)?Wednesday March 21, 7 p.m.?Heater (1999), (Special Presentation, see below)?Wednesday March 28, 7 p.m.?Where the Wild Things Are (2009)?Wednesday April 25, 7 p.m.?The Eclipse (2010)

All screenings take place in the lecture theatre of Nipissing’s Muskoka campus (125 Wellington St.).
In addition to the regular series, the organizers have a special, feature presentation of the award-winning Canadian film, Heater, including a Q & A with writer-director Terrance Odette. Critically acclaimed by such publications as Variety, Maclean’s, The Globe and Mail, and The Village Voice, which called it a “Beckett-like tour de force.”  Set in a snowy Winnipeg just before Christmas, Heater tells the story of two homeless men who try to return a stolen base-board heater for a refund, so they can buy a pack of smokes. It stars acclaimed Canadian actors Gary Farmer and Stephen Ouimette.
Terrance Odette will join the group for a screening on Wednesday March 21 at 7 p.m.
