Capitol Centre celebrating 25th anniversary
A message from North Bay’s Capitol Centre regarding silver anniversary celebrations.Dear Nipissing University Faculty and Staff,
The North Bay Capitol Centre is celebrating its 25th anniversary and we want you to be part of the party!
On Friday, March 30, we are hosting a special commemorative salute to recognize the dream and all the hard work that occurred 25 years ago when “The Arts Centre” first opened its doors. A special tribute will be made to Betty Speers, The Lady of the Arts, who was instrumental in resurrecting the Capitol Centre to its former glory. In her honour, the existing theatre will be renamed The Betty Speers Theatre.
Today the Capitol Centre is the entertainment hub of our area thanks to the volunteer hours that have been and continue to be so generously donated. Joyce Richardson volunteered at the Capitol Centre for many years and kindly bestowed the Capitol Centre a financial gift. The Joyce Richardson Volunteer Garden will be unveiled on this day paying tribute to Joyce and the many other volunteers that play such an important part in our success.
We hope that you are able to join friends, family, staff and the community on March 30 at 11 a.m. at the doors to the theatre to help us celebrate our 25th Anniversary. Festivities include historical displays and tours and a light lunch.
Sunday evening, April 1, a community Northern Voices performance featuring local groups will be held beginning at 7 p.m. A wide variety of music ranging from concert band to jazz, to vocals will be presented. Tickets are only $5 and it is a great opportunity for the public to help celebrate the milestone anniversary and enjoy local groups and musicians. MC’s for the evening are Sheesham and Lotus, the kings of oldtime music!
Monday evening will see the return of Sheesham and Lotus for a free community performance beginning at 7 p.m. Come hear fiddle music, jaws harp, and foot stomping percussion while enjoying the antics of the pair! It will be the grand finale of the week-long celebration and is sure to be a crowd pleaser.
Come on out and enjoy the fun!
Sincerely,
Lindsay Furlong
