Career forum at Nipissing Brantford
On Tuesday, January 17, Nipissing’s Brantford Campus hosted a Teacher Candidate Career Forum to provide graduating students with career advice and employment information.Dave Levac, MPP Brant, and Cathy Horgan, Director of Education for the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board, welcomed participants to the teaching profession. Then the roughly 130 students had the opportunity to participate in three panel sessions as well as an “ApplytoEducation” tutorial.
The three panel sessions included:The Principal Panel, comprised of principals from local and partner school boards,The Teacher Panel, comprised of alumni who are now teaching in public schools and the private school setting, andThe International Teaching Panel, comprised of alumni who are currently employed overseas in Egypt and the UK, interacting via Skype.
All panelists answered questions and shared their professional insights, personal experiences and advice for teacher candidates. Following the panels, students had the opportunity to attend a Career Fair with participating organizations, including partner school boards and International Recruitment Agencies.
The forum was organized in partnership with Laurier Brantford’s Career Development Center.
