Gwynne Dyer speaking at Nipissing University
Nipissing University will host internationally renowned journalist Gwynne Dyer for a lecture on March 2, at 7 p.m. in the Nipissing University Theatre (room F213).
Dyer’s lecture is titled, The (Partial) Triumph of Nonviolence: The Arab Spring. He will discuss how the region that had become a sort of game reserve for dictators is succumbing to democratic revolutions at last. The revolutions won't triumph everywhere, and some may end up in tears even though they win, but this is the last stage in a process that has transformed the world in 25 years. A quarter-century ago, only one-third of the world's people lived in more or less democratic countries; now two-thirds do. Nonviolence works.
Dyer has worked as a highly respected freelance journalist, columnist, broadcaster and lecturer on international affairs for more than 25 years. He served in three navies and held academic appointments at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and Oxford University before launching his twice-weekly column on international affairs, which is published by over 175 papers in some 45 countries. Dyer’s column is published regularly in the North Bay Nugget.
The lecture is sponsored by Nipissing University’s Office vice-president academic and research, the Canadian International Council Nipissing Branch (CIC) and the North Bay Nugget.
The lecture is free of charge and is open to everyone, registration is, however, required. You can register online here. A donation to the Canadian International Council Nipissing Branch is welcome.
A reception will be held in the Nipissing foyer following the event.
