Lady Lakers advance to Provincial Championship

The Nipissing Lady Lakers volleyball team punched a ticket  to the 2012 OCAA provincial championship with a dominating 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-15) sweep of the visiting Loyalist Lancers in a sudden death cross-over playoff match at the RJS gymnasium.North Bay native Lucia DeMarco, playing in her final home game, was a standout with a spirited performance collecting 17 points to lead the Lakers offence. First-year outside hitter Brittany Ardron also had a stellar performance collecting 14 points while Rebecca Ramsay added nine.
“I really liked the energy and passion we had today,” said head coach Marc LaRochelle. “Today was about playing as a team and everyone making a positive contribution.”
At the OCAA Championship the Lady Lakers will now face the second place team in the East division, the Algonquin Thunder, who finished the season with a 14-6 regular season record. The game will be played Thursday, February 23 at Georgian College with the time yet to be determined as the host Georgian has the option to select their game time.
Georgian College is hosting the OCAA women's championship Feb 23-25 with the OCAA Awards banquet kicking off the event Thursday morning. Games are scheduled for 1, 3, 6 and 8 p.m.
