Lakers Confessor scores try-out with Philippine national team

Nipissing University soccer player Valaine Confessor is participating in the Philippine Football Federations (PFF) Philippine Women’s National Team training camp, held November 14 – 21 at Titan Stadium on the Cal State Fullerton campus in Fullerton, California. Confessor has been identified by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) as a candidate for the Philippine Women’s National Team. The camp is used to determine the final roster for the team participating in the LA Vikings Cup, played November 23 – December 2, 2012.

Confessor is currently in her third year of Nipissing’s BPHE program and has been a force at the midfield position for the past three seasons with the Lakers.  She was born in Manila  and moved to Toronto in March 2000. She started playing soccer in Canada at the rep level when she was 11 years old.

“This is a great opportunity, not only for the experience of playing at such a high level, but to also to have a chance to represent the country in which I was born is a privilege,” said Confessor.

Confessor’s goal is to crack the roster for the LA Vikings Cup, however, she is fully aware of the talent that will be present at this camp. Confessor was also quick to thank Lakers head coach David Bitonti for all of his support and direction along with all the people associated with the BPHE program who have been very supportive of this opportunity.

Bitonti was excited for Valaine and believes she is truly deserving of this opportunity.

“It doesn’t come as a surprise that Valaine’s incredible work ethic, her refined technical skills, and her tremendous tactical awareness would be recognized for the next level. She is coming off a personal best season and the experience training with the National Team will only further enhance her development. I am hoping that Valaine can share her new found experiences with us to further broaden our training methods and inspire her teammates to achieve greater personal and team results,” he said.
