Lakers hockey pick up big points in winning weekend

The Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team notched four big points over the past weekend with wins over Queen’s and RMC.
On Friday night, the Lakers defeated Queen’s 4-3 in a shootout thanks to some late-game heroics  from Dorian Peca and Brogan Bailey.

Peca sent the game into overtime with one minute left on the clock, while Bailey scored the lone shootout goal to give the Lakers the win.

“I thought we played pretty well the whole game, we just couldn’t score,” said Lakers head coach Mike McParland. “Luckily, we got one in the last minute and got the chance to win it in the shootout.  These are big points. All of these games are big.”

On Saturday, against RMC, the Lakers stormed back from a 2-1 deficit to stake a 3-2 win.

Lakers forward Doug Clarkson opened the scoring— his team-leading 12th goal and his sixth in the past four games — RMC notched a pair of goals to take the lead.

Andrew Marcoux tied the game for the Lakers in the second period, setting the stage for Grant Toulmin to pot the game winner.

The Lakers, with 28 points, now hold third place in the tight OUA East division with six games remaining, one point up on the Carleton Ravens (12-7-3). Ottawa, Ryerson and Toronto are in a three-way tie for fifth place with 25 points each.8
