Mock Refugee Camp on campus
Nipissing’s World University Service of Canada (WUSC) committee is holding a Mock Refugee Camp on Thursday, November 29, starting at noon in the Education Centre cafeteria.
Participants will stay in the mock camp for a full 24 hours, finishing at noon on November 30.
The event is aimed at raising awareness about refugee camps and raising funds for Nipissing’s Student Refugee Program. Students participating in the camp will be collecting donations for the program.
The event will feature information about refugees, the student refugee program and shine-a-light. Yves Kalala, a previously sponsored refugee student who recently graduated from Nipissing will make a presentation at 5:30 p.m. in room B200. Following Kalala’s talk, a refugee camp style dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.
At 7:00 p.m. Odwa Atari will make a presentation in B200 titled, Refugees and IDPs Reflections and Experiences.
Starting at 9 p.m. the movies Darfur Now and God Grew Tired of Us, will be screened in the cafeteria.
