Murton Stoehr hits the Star
Dr. Catherine Murton Stoehr, of Nipissing’s History Department, recently lent her voice to the discussion about Attawapiskat, the Crown-First Nation Gathering in Ottawa, and the relationship between First Nations and non-Aboriginal Canadians in general, with an opinion editorial in the Toronto Star on January 26.Murton Stoehr argues that Canadians should think about government support of First Nations, not as charity for First Nations, but rather in terms of rent owed.
"They have been our benefactors since the days of the fur trade and we have become one of the wealthiest societies in human history," she writes.
