New partnership spawns conference at Nipissing
Nipissing recently hosted Northern Synergy, the inaugural meeting and first annual graduate student conference for students in Northern Ontario pursuing a Master of Arts in Applied Sociology.
The conference, which took place on March 24, emerged from a new partnership between the departments of Sociology at Nipissing University, Laurentian University and Algoma University. It welcomed 10 students and 11 faculty members from each of the three institutions. Nipissing’s Dr. Greg Brown provided opening remarks. Students and faculty presented on their research and led discussion throughout the day.
As part of the partnership, Nipissing faculty members will be acting as faculty advisors for graduate students from the other schools institutions. This arrangement benefits Nipissing students by providing them with a wide variety of research interests with which to engage.
