Super Frosh Smackdown to gear up for fall semester
The hustle and bustle of students returning to school or beginning their university career is on the immediate horizon and soon campus will be buzzing with activity.
Orientation and courses for students in the consecutive Bachelor of Education program in North Bay began on Monday, and their first placement starts September 4.
The Nipissing University Student Union has more than a week of activities planned to help students connect and get acquainted with the campus and the city before classes begin on September 10.
Frosh week activities, AKA Super Frosh Smackdown, in North Bay start on Saturday, September 1, with Marvel’s Mystic Mastermind Move-Ins followed by the Forget Unpacking Beach Party at the Wall.
Head down to the Chief Commanda on Sunday morning, September 2, at 9:15 as students will be shining the boat for their annual Shinerama publicity stunt. Later that day, students host a Residence Carnival at lower residence from 8 – 11 p.m.
Events get rolling Monday with closing ceremonies for Residence Orientation Weekend at the Waterfront at 4:45 p.m. From there, the Frosh crew will head over to the Chief Commanda for the Batman and Froshin’ Banshee Boat Cruise from 7:30 – 9 p.m. before the Superhero Rockstar Pub at the Wall closes out the night.
Tuesday’s events include Opening Ceremonies in the Robert J. Surtees Student Athletics Centre at 9 a.m.; Infroshible Hulk’s Green Rage Inflatable Games from 1 – 3 p.m. at Lower Residence; and Tony Lee XXX Hypontist at the Wall (doors open at 5 p.m.).
Wednesday brings a presentation of the play Single and Sexy at 9:30 a.m. Nipissing’s Alumni is hosting a 20th Birthday party for the university with enough Kraft Dinner for all at 12:30 at the Wall. With bellies full of KD, students will head to North Bay’s Waterfront at 2:30 p.m. for Dr. Froshtavious Beach Day.
Thursday morning at 11 features Face to Facebook in the Wall, followed by the Mud Stickin’ Mag-Neato Olympics at 2 p.m. at the Founders Residence field. Hopefully Frosh will have enough time to clean themselves up before heading out to the Wall for Lights, doors open at 8 p.m.
Students will enjoy the Dean’s breakfast at the Wall on Friday morning at 10, and can learn more about Shinerama and Cystic Fibrosis during the Shinerama Panel at 3:30 p.m. at the Wall. The Super Frosh versus Fantastic Four Amazing Race runs from 5 – 8 p.m. all over the city, but beginning and ending at the pond.
Don’t leave home without a few extra bucks on Saturday, September 8, as North Bay will be shining with students during– Futureshine: 2012 Shinerama!!!! Breakfast is served in the cafeteria at 8:15 for all volunteers. Buses depart at 10 a.m. for 13 locations in North Bay, and surrounding areas. Students will be shining and raising funds for Cystic Fibrosis. Be generous and help Nipissing students exceed expectations for this worthy event. The main Shinerama site is at the MacEwen Gas Bar on Algonquin Avenue. Players from the Lakers Men’s Hockey team will be present, as well as Mitch Belanger from the Fox Radio. North Bay Mayor Al MacDonald has proclaimed Sept. 8 to be Shinerama Day, and all community members are encouraged to support the campaign.
Events wrap up on Sunday, September 9 with the FroshMen First Class Food Drive; students will be in neighborhoods throughout North Bay between 1 and 3 p.m. collecting food donations for the Student Food Bank. A TOP SECRET Frosh Doomsday event runs at 4:40 p.m. at the Wall, followed by the Frosh Awards Ceremony.
And then, classes begin on Monday…Whew!
