Teacher Candidates participate in Building Futures

Graduating teacher candidates of the Schulich School of Education, Brantford Campus, recently had the opportunity to participate in the Building Futures program, presented by the Ministry of Education. This event was organized by Academic Advisor, Kelly Hunter, in partnership with Nipissing University Brantford staff and Ministry of Education representatives.Building Futures was developed by the Ministry of Education to assist teacher candidates as they embark upon their careers and make the transition from a teacher education program to the classroom. The day-long activities informed teacher candidates of key education priorities and initiatives and provided them with valuable resources to assist them in delivering effective teaching strategies.
Teacher candidates were welcomed by a New Teacher Induction Program representative from the Ministry of Education, and a local first-year teacher also shared her experiences. As part of this full-day event, participants attended workshops on various topics including: Aboriginal Education, Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting in Ontario Schools, Financial Literacy, Full-Day Early Learning Programming, Safe and Healthy Schools, Engaging and Communicating with Parents, Occasional Teaching, the New Teacher Induction Program and more.
Each participant was given a Building Futures USB drive with links to hundreds of useful Ministry resources, presentations and websites.
