Stamp out stigma with Olympian Clara Hughes
Clara Hughes, six-time summer and winter Olympic medalist, is speaking at the Capitol Centre about mental health and her own recovery, on May 23, at 7 p.m. Hughes will be sharing her past struggles with depression in an effort to help break down the stigma associated with mental illness.The event is presented by the Canadian Mental Health Association and the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation. Nipissing University is helping to sponsor the event.

A special Meet the Speaker cocktail party will precede the event at 5:30 p.m. Tickets for the Meet the Speaker cost $100 and also include reserved seating for Hughes’ presentation at 7 p.m.
Hughes has won multiple Olympic medals in both cycling and speed skating. She won two bronze in the 1996 Summer and four medals (one gold, one silver, two bronze) over the course of three Winter Olympics. Hughes, who is also the only Canadian to have won medals in both the Summer and Winter Olympics, is one of only five people to have podium finishes in both versions of the games, and is the only person ever to have won multiple medals in both.
