Second Pink the Rink a huge success
While still a relatively new initiative, the Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team and the Nipissing University sports marketing class have taken great strides in making the Pink the Rink campaign a huge success. The second annual event, which took place in November, provided support to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. This year’s event topped last year’s and has everyone involved already looking forward to the 2015 edition.
Thanks to an amazing effort by the sports marketing class at Nipissing, they were able to draw over 750 fans to the game and help generate support for both the cause and the sport. The fundraising efforts resulted in over $8,000 being raised for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
Denyse Lafrance Horning, assistant professor, School of Business at Nipissing, said she was thrilled with the way things came together this year.
“Overall, we are ecstatic with the results of this second annual Pink the Rink event and we look forward to continued support in coming years,” she said. “I am very proud of my sport marketing students who took on this project with great passion and commitment to both learning and a great cause.”
On behalf of everyone involved, a big thank-you goes out to the Pink the Rink title sponsor, Northern Honda, as well as all of the other generous sponsors and donors, excellent volunteers and all who chipped in to make the second annual event bigger and better than the first.
Only with the help of the sponsors and donors could the mission be fulfilled to bring together a community and continue the bold fight against breast cancer.
he two biggest highlights of the entire event were the over 750 fans at the game, which is believed to be a record for attendance for a women’s hockey game and the $8,032.44 raised in support of the CBCF.
