Donate to the Tuque Project and help 25,000 Syrian refugees

Nipissing University's Department of Student Learning and Transitions is taking part in the 25000 Tuques Project that aims to welcome each of the 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada in the most Canadian way possible: with a handmade tuque.

To participate in this initiative the Department of Student Learning and Transitions is seeking donations of yarn?, knitting needles?, crochet hooks, or cash.  Donations will be collected in the Academic Skills Centre in B209.

If you don't know how to knit, Student Learning & Transitions and Stix & Stones have you covered. Stix & Stones, North Bay's full service yarn store, has been kind enough to offer a 2-hour class on-campus during the first week of January.  Classes are usually up to $45 but will be offered for free as a donation to this cause.  More goodies, including discounts, will be made available from Stix & Stones for knitters of all skills levels so register to participate here for more information.

Has it been a while since you've picked up your needles? Can you knit and purl but you've never tried making a hat? Scott Fitzgerald, clinical education leader in the School of Nursing at Nipissing University, is offering two opportunities to learn the skills necessary to participate next week.  Click here for an expression of interest form.
