Raising awareness about human trafficking
Human trafficking is one of the most heinous crimes imaginable and is often described as modern-day slavery. It is also the second fastest growing criminal industry in the world.
Nipissing welcomes guest speaker Sgt. Shelly Tarnowski, OPP and Provincial Coordinator of Abuse Issues, to campus for a special event to raise awareness about human trafficking on Tuesday, March 3, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in room F213.
The event is hosted by Nipissing’s Criminal Justice Department and the Criminal Justice Honour Society, Alpha Phi Sigma.
Alpha Phi Sigma is aiming to raise awareness of the growing issue of human trafficking and change the perception of what human trafficking is and how it may relate to students on the Nipissing campus.
A donation of $5 or a food item for North Bay food bank is requested for admittance to the event. All monetary donations will go tocanadianwomen.org and their efforts against human trafficking.
Watch for the Alpha Phi Sigma human trafficking awareness campaign for information on how you can help prevent this crime that represents a consistent and pervasive assault on human rights.
Alpha Phi Sigma recognizes academic excellence of Undergraduate and Graduate students of Criminal Justice, as well as Juris Doctorate students. The goals of Alpha Phi Sigma are to honour and promote academic excellence, community service, educational leadership and unity.?
