Successful search for Deans
Nipissing University is pleased to announce the search for the positions of Dean of Arts and Sciences, and Dean of the Schulich School of Education has successfully concluded. The Board of Governors ratified the recommendations of the two selection committees on February 5, 2015.
Dr. Murat Tuncali has been appointed to the position of Dean of Arts and Sciences, for a five-year term, effective July 1, 2015.
Dr. Carole Richardson has been appointed to the position of Dean of the Schulich School of Education, for a five-year term, effective July 1, 2015.
The successful appointments come following a formal internal search process launched in November 2014, which included public presentations for all shortlisted candidates in January 2014.
Dr. Tuncali and Dr. Richardson each bring a wealth of experience to the role of Dean.
Dr. Tuncali has been a professor at Nipissing since 1991. He served as Chair of the department of Computer Science and Mathematics in 2005 to 2006, and again from 2008 to 2011. From 2011 to 2014, Dr. Tuncali was Assistant Vice-President, Research and Graduate Studies. He has been serving as Interim Dean of Arts and Science since August 2014. He holds a PhD and Master of Science in Mathematics from the University of Saskatchewan, and a Bachelor of Science from Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey. Dr. Tuncali has earned repeated grants from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada since 1993.
Dr. Richardson began her professorial career at Nipissing in 2000, after having worked as a school teacher for a number of years. She served as Chair of the Junior/Intermediate division in the Faculty of Education from 2008 to 2010. She served as Associate Dean, Schulich School of Education on two occasions, 2010 to 2011, and 2012 to 2013. She was Acting Dean of the Schulich School of Education in 2011 to 2012, and as Interim Dean of the Schulich School of Education from 2013 to the present. Dr. Richardson holds a PhD in Curriculum, Teaching and Learning from OISE at the University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Education, a Master of Education from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Acadia University.
