CICAS kicks off luncheon series
The Centre for Interdisciplinary Collaborations in the Arts and Sciences at Nipissing (CICAS, aka Kick-ass) kicked off a new lunch series this week with the goal of exploring new avenues of research with faculty, students and staff from different disciplines to come up come up with innovative ideas.
The informal luncheons will be held on a regular basis, so if you missed the first one, there will be future opportunities to engage with peers in the spirit of exploration, discovery and innovation.
The inaugural luncheon, held on Tuesday, February 23, featured Dr. Eric Weichel assistant professor of Art History and Visual Studies; Dr. Paul Monaghan, History and Classics; and Marcus Fessler, video artist. The discussion was titledMeditations on Interdisciplinary (Mis)Perceptions.
Dr. Pavlina Radia, associate dean of the faculty of arts and science, and CICAS director, provided welcoming remarks.
CICAS will continue to offer the popular panel series, and will be hosting its first ever conference this summer, but organizers wanted to offer a less formal opportunity as well.
“We realize that interdisciplinary thinking happens both in and outside the classroom: it is an "approach" and a way of thinking that affects all areas of professional, social, and personal life. A lot of NU faculty and students are already participating in the interdisciplinary debate, so these luncheons provide a venue for all the people interested in interdisciplinary to connect and think together,” said Radia.?
